Disruption: anything that messes with my routine. Today's economic downturn - a massive disruption. Many of us have felt the pain of being told, "Your job has been terminated." Or maybe you're a young person completing your schooling only to find out that the career opportunity you had worked so hard to prepare for no longer exists. Dreams and plans disrupted. Where do we turn?

Eight Tall Ships under full sail entering the Duluth, Minnesota were greeted by a fleet of pleasure craft and sailboats that looked tiny by comparison. What caught my eye were the masts and the sails – strong enough to withstand a gale, but totally dependent on the wind for power. How like our lives – totally dependent on the Holy Spirit for power!

We need somebody who we can trust enough to share our burdens. We, of course, can and should cast our burdens on Christ (1 Peter 5:7), but from personal experience I know that it is therapeutic to be able to share my deepest needs with another person who is also on this sometimes difficult journey in life.

God sent a rare auto-immune blood disease my way, called cold agglutinin. For the last 16 years the daily question I deal with is, how cold is it going to be in this place, or that place? This has greatly curtailed my ability to be involved in church work in recent years. I loved serving the Lord in church, but he had something different in mind.
