Seeing how many women are being affected by job loss and financial stress made a big impact on me. Others are facing family illnesses, church conflicts, and loneliness. Their faith is being tested. We planned for 150, but by God's grace 185 ate a delicious catered lunch, and 200 attended the morning business session, listened to Keynote speaker, Teresa Szobody, and attended practical and inspiring workshops in the afternoon.

Laughing with each other during get-acquainted times, worshiping our Lord under Michele Foss’s leadership, and praying together in small groups led by Kristen Erickson, the fragrance of friendship was created between first-year students and those who will graduate this year, between newlyweds and mothers.

It was breakfast time at Dan and Rachel's home when I arrived to ask about Christmas in Chad. I sipped tea while the kids wolfed down pancakes and warmed to the conversation. Because an early Minnesota snow had fallen that October morning, it seemed natural to me to talk about Christmas.

I thought driving from Everett to Bellingham would be similar to the trip I had often made from Fergus Falls, Minnesota to Fargo, North Dakota - about an hour in length, depending on how slippery the roads might be in January. Hmmm. Not quite the same, I found out.

Two boxes of DVDs are sitting in my family room. By the time you read this, they will be gone! They are being given away this fall by the Women’s Ministries Presidents in each CLB Region. Each DVD contains the five sessions of Leadership Training Conference 2 that Ruth Vallevik, Janet Spencer, and Ruth Christenson brought to our Regions.

Chairs were hastily stacked, and tables appeared, while fingers deftly smoothed blue fabric over the flat surfaces, and platters of attractively arranged food were whisked into the room by efficient Edmonton and Beaumont women. Burnewood Hall was transformed from the meeting place of the Church of the Lutheran Brethren Canada Convention to a lovely noon luncheon room for the women of the region!

As Women’s Ministries of the CLB, we see supporting our pastors’ wives as a vital need. Although we will continue to fund several ongoing projects this year, we have chosen a Focus Project for 2011-2012: Our Lutheran Brethren Pastors’ Wives.
Grace Unfolded

A trio of Geraghty women unfolded the idea of God’s grace in the cool June morning to a gathering at Tuscarora Inn. Like the layers of an onion, our reserve was peeled away, and our tears became more profuse as one by one they shared their stories. Stories of God making his presence known; his grace flowing through his people; his grace revealed in his Word; his sustaining grace through tragedy.

Fires continue to be lit on snowy peak after snowy peak, until at last, the message is received at the neighboring kingdom: “Gondor calls for aid!” Gondor was deep in battle. And so are we, as believers in Jesus. This month, Women's Ministries calls for aid. Our Focus Project this year is supporting our pastors’ wives.
